Eight monuments

Eight monuments on the Guilford Green remind us to practice peace.

the war to end all wars?

VII

Before we kill another child
For righteousness’ sake, to serve
some blissful killer’s sacred cause,
some bloody patriot’s anthem
and his flag, let us leave forever
our ancestral lands, our holy books,
our god thoughtified to the mean
of our smallest selves. Let us go
to the graveyard and lie down
forever among the speechless stones.

Thirtysomething years in the same location.

The Guilford Peace Alliance started in the early 1980s and we've been here just about every Saturday since then. Come and stand still with us for a few minutes or an hour between 11 am and noon.

We made the front page of the Shore Line Times in May of 1997. The late great Sally Curtiss was one of the original members of the GPA.

By standing still:

You reduce air pollution.

You slow the cutting of trees.

You stop consuming.

You avoid throwing things away.

You halt the race.

You remember what you forgot.

at the College of the Redwoods Mendocino campus,
stands still regularly on Main Street in Fort Bragg, California.
